Who We Are:
The Council on American-Islamic Relations Philadelphia Chapter (CAIR-Pennsylvania) is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization registered in Pennsylvania. It is part of a large association of interlinked CAIR chapters across the nation, together forming America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy group.
Our immediate focus is to help resolve the two greatest civic challenges facing the American Muslim community: those of stereotypes, propaganda and misinformation, and the consequences of those stereotypes, such as discrimination, profiling and Islamophobia.
In the spirit of addressing those problems holistically, the CAIR mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
Our programs and services fall into these major areas of focus:
Civil Rights – We respond to individual cases of religious discrimination through mediation, litigation and other advocacy channels. We also challenge policies of disparate impact and profiling. Learn more
Media Engagement – By being available to media at all times, producing our own media, and offering an assertive, confident American Muslim perspective, we challenge stereotypes by creating our own narrative. Learn more
Education and Dialogue – We offer presentations, seminars, workshops and special events on Islam, Muslims, civic engagement and various topics to interfaith partners, public and private organizations, schools and houses of worship. Learn more
Youth – We conduct a year-round Muslim Youth Leadership Program for American Muslim high school students. Learn more
